Your Gradebook automatically keeps track of the status of all assigned Activities within your course.

Status Definitions

Upcoming - a queued activity not yet assigned to the student

An instructor can choose to assign upcoming activities to a student automatically:

  • on the assigned date or

  • when the previous activity is completed (if auto-scheduled)

Assigned - an activity currently assigned to the student

In Progress - the student has started working on the activity

Needs Help - the student moved their activity into the Need Help column in the Courseflow

Overdue - the student did not submit the activity by the due date, and the instructor has turned the Mark Late After Due Date toggle off

Late - the student did not submit the activity by the due date, and the instructor has turned the Mark Late After Due Date toggle on

In-Person - an activity has no submission button, and the activity will be moved off the student's to-do list and moves into Needs Grading for instructors.

Needs Grading - a student completed an activity, and the activity is ready to be graded

Activities will be marked as "needs grading" when:

  • They are marked as done or submitted online by a student.

  • The submitted quiz or test contains manually graded questions.

  • An assignment without the Mark Done or Turn In Submission checked by the instructor automatically move into the Need Grading category once the due date passes.

Graded - the instructor posted a grade for the activity in the gradebook

Auto-Graded - the student submitted an auto-graded quiz and received a grade

Manual Graded Item - an instructor manually entered a grade in the student's gradebook

Extra Credit - an instructor entered a grade for an "extra credit" activity in the student's gradebook

Skipped - the student skipped an optional activity.

Excused - the instructor excused the student from a graded activity.

Skipper does not calculate an excused activity into the student's overall grade average.

Incomplete - the instructor marked the student's activity as incomplete. Incomplete status does not calculate an excused activity into the student's overall grade average.

Dropped - an instructor dropped the student's grade for a particular activity.

Student course averages do not include dropped grades.

Missed - the student did not submit a Locked activity, and the due date has passed.
