Your Gradebook automatically keeps track of the status of all assigned Activities within your course.
Status Definitions
Upcoming - a queued activity not yet assigned to the student
An instructor can choose to assign upcoming activities to a student automatically:
on the assigned date or
when the previous activity is completed (if auto-scheduled)
Assigned - an activity currently assigned to the student
In Progress - the student has started working on the activity
Needs Help - the student moved their activity into the Need Help column in the Courseflow
Overdue - the student did not submit the activity by the due date, and the instructor has turned the Mark Late After Due Date toggle off
Late - the student did not submit the activity by the due date, and the instructor has turned the Mark Late After Due Date toggle on
In-Person - an activity has no submission button, and the activity will be moved off the student's to-do list and moves into Needs Grading for instructors.
Needs Grading - a student completed an activity, and the activity is ready to be graded
Activities will be marked as "needs grading" when:
They are marked as done or submitted online by a student.
The submitted quiz or test contains manually graded questions.
An assignment without the Mark Done or Turn In Submission checked by the instructor automatically move into the Need Grading category once the due date passes.
Graded - the instructor posted a grade for the activity in the gradebook
Auto-Graded - the student submitted an auto-graded quiz and received a grade
Manual Graded Item - an instructor manually entered a grade in the student's gradebook
Extra Credit - an instructor entered a grade for an "extra credit" activity in the student's gradebook
Skipped - the student skipped an optional activity.
Excused - the instructor excused the student from a graded activity.
Skipper does not calculate an excused activity into the student's overall grade average.
Incomplete - the instructor marked the student's activity as incomplete. Incomplete status does not calculate an excused activity into the student's overall grade average.
Dropped - an instructor dropped the student's grade for a particular activity.
Student course averages do not include dropped grades.
Missed - the student did not submit a Locked activity, and the due date has passed.
