Depending on the course owner's permissions, course members can create and send messages to other members in a course, including students and parents.

What is considered a Course Chat?

A Course Chat is created when the course icon is selected in the New Chat.

How do I add a Moderator to my Chat?

You cannot manually add a moderator. Skipper automatically adds a Chat moderator to any Course Chat created by course leaders, parents, or students.

Who are Chat Moderators?

All course leaders in the instructor or tutor role are automatically added to the Course Chat as a moderator.

Can anyone be a Chat Moderator?

If you want to add another adult to your course to moderate your chats, the course Owner can create a custom role with permission to moderate conversations.

Chat moderators oversee the Chat conversation and have the ability to:

  • Close the Chat

  • Reopen the Chat

  • Remove people from the Chat

  • Add people to the Chat

  • Delete Chat message posts

Note: Moderators can delete posts from other moderators.

Chat moderators cannot remove the Chat Creator from the Chat.

NOTE: If the course Instructor turns off Chat permissions for parents or students, parents and students cannot create a new Course Chat.

When the Course Instructor turns off Chat permission, students and parents can only interact within Chats created by an Instructor, Tutor or Course Leader with a Course Moderator Permission Level.
