• Give quicker feedback and answers to questions when students turn in assignments online.

Pro-tip: Click the checkbox to remove the Online submission is required setting.

Optional online assignment submissions

If online submissions are not required then students see the Turn In button and Mark as Done button.

Students have an option to turn in their assignment online through Skipper or mark their assignment as done.

When to select online submissions is optional

• Some students may need additional help or feedback with an assignment. By submitting their assignment online you can annotate and provide feedback to your student.

• Some students prefer typing their paper vs. handwriting their paper and vice versa.

• Optional online submissions gives students choices that suite their individual needs.

On Paper Submissions

Students turn in their work to their instructor, or they keep the assignment. The assignment may include a workbook, a worksheet, a paper test, or a dictation exercise.

Students do not turn in anything online, so they mark the assignment as done by clicking the mark as done button.

No Submissions

Some assignments are for students to learn more about a subject and do not include submitted work. For example, reading a book, studying notes, playing Quizlet, watching a video, or listening to a song.

Students assignments are not required to be submitted to the teacher.

Students do not turn in anything online, so they mark the assignment as done by clicking the mark as done button.

In-Person Activity

In-Person Activities are for assignments your students do not need to mark as done or turn in their work. These assignments automatically move off your student's to-do list after the due date.

You can create a gradebook entry for assignments your students complete in class. For example, tasks may include a quiz on paper, a group presentation, a science experiment, or class participation grades. Or use non-graded assignments to remind students of the items they need to bring to class.

Because students do not turn anything in online or mark an assignment as done, there are no buttons for students to click.

Pro-Tip: After the due date, non-graded assignments automatically move into the completed status, and graded assignments move into the Needs Grading status. Students will see graded assignments as Grade Pending until you enter the student's grade.

If the student missed class or did not complete the in person assignment, you will need to move the assignment from the Needs Grading category into a different status.

  1. Excuse the student from completing the assignment

  2. Mark the assignment as missing (coming soon)

  3. Reassign the assignment to the student. Students cannot mark as done or turn in the assignment, so you need to add a grade or force complete this assignment to remove it from student's to-do list.
