Course Settings
Is there a way to add links to resources like a QR code (to the main course in general, not in a specific unit)
Yes! In course settings > course dashboard you can add url links to the course materials. Here's a quick video to show you how.
Assignments & Quizzes
What's the best way to approach putting in-person quizzes in Skipper?
The best way is to create an assignment with these settings:
Create an assignment with the title of the quiz.
For the instructions to students: Study for the in class quiz (you can add more details of what they should study)
Select the submission type as "In Person" (click here to learn more)
This assignment will
Let your students know there is an upcoming quiz they need to study for and be prepared to take it in class.
The "In Person" submission type does not give students a check mark to mark off - but will automatically be removed off their to-do list after the due date.
You also have a gradebook item. This assignment will tell you it needs to be graded once the due date passes.
Does Skipper auto-grade quizzes with true/false or multiple choice questions?
Yes, if you create a quiz with any type of question EXCEPT short answer or essay - the questions are auto-graded.
Class Chats
Setting Up your Course Chat
I would love guidance on how to set up chats. For both of my classes I would like to set up a student only and a parent only chat. I will also add parents to the student chat if they would like me to.
We will help you set-up your course chats for students and parents and provide training on best practices for chat. Plus, we will discuss Course Chats in detail at the August 13th Arrow instructor's meeting.
Note: We are completely updating our chat functionality and adding chat to mobile app this fall!
Course Enrollment
When can students join my course?
You will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to add students to your course. (ETA Sunday August 8th)
To help ensure a smooth start to the year we are in the process of
Adding new families onto the Skipper platform.
Creating information to help new families and students navigate Skipper.
Creating information to help parents and students join your course.
How do I add students to my course?
What's the Arrow process for adding parents/students to my classes? Is that done for me, or do I do this?
Students will join your course using a Join Course Code. You will email the Join Code code to your students and/or parent. (I'll show you how to do this)
The student or parent will enter the Join Course Code inside their account. When your student joins your course their parent is automatically.
What happens if students do not join my course?
If you have problems with students joining your course, you email request to hello@skipper.io for us to manually add the student to your course.
New Family Questions
Are new and incoming Arrow-families able to create accounts in Skipper
We are adding the new families into Skipper (at least the families we know about).
If the new student's parent already has a Skipper account, they can add their child inside their account.
How would you prefer me to respond to emails from questioning new-comers? (I just sent out my welcome letter yesterday and am fielding questions.)
You can let the new families know they will be added to Skipper in the next few days and will receive an email with log in instructions from Skipper.
