Grading groups are important because they:

  • Organize your assignment and quizzes into types of activities your students do within your class

  • Sets which activity is shown in the gradebook and effects the student's course grade

  • Allows you to set weighted grades for your course

Take time to think about how you will set-up your course using nongraded and graded groups.

Using your coursework and course material lists you can decide on what groups you will create for nongraded and graded assignments and quizzes.

To get started, think about the assignments and quizzes you will be assigning to your students. Answering the questions below will help you plan your course activities.

  1. What materials will students use for their assignment or quiz? e.g. textbooks, videos, online class links

  2. Do you have common types of assignments or quizzes. e.g. Read Book, Answer Questions, Vocab Practice, Test, Review Questions ….

  3. What assignments or quizzes will be graded?

For example:

  • Nongraded activities include: Read, Study, Watch Video, Practice

  • Graded activities include: Answer Questions, Tests, Lab Report, Quiz

Will you set weighted grades for your course? If so, assign a percentage for each grading group. The total percentage for graded groups must equal 100%. e.g. Answer Questions 10%, Test 50%, Lab Report 20%, Quiz 20%

Note: You can change your course from a graded to ungraded course inside the Course Settings > Course Details tab.

You do it!

Go to Course Settings > Grade Settings to create your Course Activity Groups.

Name your ungraded and graded groups for your course. *Rename the preset groups and add additional groups. You can drag and drop groups between nongraded and graded settings.
