Class chats are a favorite feature on Skipper. Students love interacting with one another (especially middle-school kids). You'll often see students helping one another by answering each other's questions. Which makes class chats an important way to support students. With so many great interactions between students, the important messages from instructors can get lost in the sea of email notifications.
Some people do not want to receive an email notification every time someone posts a message in the course chat. To help weed out the general posts like "awesome, thanks!", you can use the @mention feature within your course chats.
Your chat members will receive an email notification when you use the @mention feature to mention students, parents, or everyone in your chat. This Notification allows your course members to only receive the important messages posted within the chat.
You can turn on this notification by toggling on the "New Mention" email notification setting.
This feature allows people to turn off the "New Message" email notification, which sends an email anytime someone posts inside a chat, yet still stay in the loop! Using the New Mention notification, people receive an email only when the person's role or name is mentioned in a chat.

Coming soon. New Notification for instructor posted messages. We've had a few requests to add a notification for messages the instructor posts in a chat. We are working on implementing this in the next few weeks!
